RELEASED0.2.7 Released Packages

This version is now obsolete and should not be used.

The FREESCO 0.2.7 series introduced the package capabilities. The packages are keep for archival purposes only.

There are 2 types of files for FREESCO 027 files ...
'I' have considered the beta's to be released
I also moved the 'Windows and Linux' files into the non-packages section

Released Package RELEASED PACKAGES
Non Package NON-PACKAGES

SUPPORT
If you are looking for package help, there is a great support forum, The FREESCO Support Forum, which has a section that offers support for these 3rd party packages

Support for 0.2.7 packages is VERY limited, as the main concern is for the current version of FREESCO.

I've finally finished packaging and testing my new Apache package for FREESCO 0.2.7 only!
I expect the 03x package to be ready in a few weeks (sorry 'bout that).

Requirements
============
* lewy-lib package
* openssl 0.9.6g package by nadegda
* perl 5.6.1 (for mod_perl and CGI's)
* GNU tar (utils package)
* aprox. 45Mb free disk space (10Mb for download)
* most likely a bigger ramdisk (free inodes!)

What do you get?
================
* Apache 1.3.27, fixes a few security holes in 1.3.26
* PHP 4.3.1 with a sh*tload of built-in goodies.
* mod_ssl for Secure Socket Layer based on the OpenSSL toolkit.
* mod_perl, but this time as a loadable module, so if you don't need it/want it, you can remove it from your Apache config. In my 1.3.26 package it was statically linked, so you had no choice.
* mod_mp3 turns Apache into an MP3 or Ogg streaming server.
* mod_dosevasive (short for DoS evasive maneuvers) protects Apache against DoS attacks or very pushy clients.
*stuff I forget...

I have succesfully installed the package on top of my existing Apache 1.3.26 package and also on a freshly made, virgin, stock, freesco 027 box. The latter will need the SYSV kernel upgrade (2 kernels are inside the package, this is are the same two kernels as in my 1.3.26 package).
If you had Apache before, your kernel is probably OK already.

Installation
============
installpkg $URL/apache_1.3.27_dingetje

in a console, telnet or ssh session, logged in as root. Do *not* attempt to install this via the web control panel...
where $URL is the URL of the closest FREESCOSoft mirror or the Author's URL.

Post Install
============
Although you should see the test page http://your.freesco.ip/apache.html right out of the box, I *strongly* suggest you go through the /mnt/router/packages/apache/conf/httpd.conf file. As a bare minimum set the 'ServerName' in both the main config (for port 80) and for the "SSL Virtual Host Context" (port 443) to match your (DynDNS, No-IP) "external" domain name.
If you only need Apache for your internal net, then set it to router.inet (or whatever your freesco box is called internally) or the local IP address of your box.
Save changes and type 'rc_httpd restart'.

If you had Apache installed, your old Apache httpd.conf is backed up. Any changes you need to apply to the new Apache can easily be copy/pasted over to the new httpd.conf. As you may notice, the new version is a bit more complicated, due to the SSL settings.

If you want to run HTTPS (Secure), I suggest you follow the procedure described in the mod_ssl manual (part of the package) to create a server certificate.
My self signed test certificate is in place as a sample, but it's strongly suggested to make your own, so at least the certificate matches your domain name. DO THIS!!!
I've thought about adding the certificate steps to the install script, but since the procedure is so well descibed in the mod_ssl manual, I decided not to (not to mention the difficulties to capture that procedure in a decent fool proof way).

The PHP in this package comes with a commandline version too, so you can test/debug PHP scripts from the command line (output to console) or run simple automated tasks via crontab PHP scripts.
The 'pear' command can be used too, to update your PHP standard library. Much like CPAN is for perl.
It is very likely that you need to upgrade the standard ram disk to a bigger size, due to the # of symbolic links that have to be made.

Apache::ASP is a perl plugin for mod_perl enabled Apache servers. AFAIK only my Apache_1.3.26_dingetje package supports mod_perl, so yes, that's one of the requirements for this package:

Requirements
Apache with mod_perl

Perl 5.6.1 (since that is a requirement for Apache with mod_perl, this requirements is usually met when Apache with mod_perl is installed)

Aprox. 34 Mb free disk space (!). See note below.

/bin/tar with -z option (utils package)

Installation
installpkg http://dingetje.homeip.net/beta/Apache_ASP_2.5_dingetje

Notes
The main reason this package is so big is because I've decided to include my full perl5 lib directory in the package. This includes old stuff from the 5.003 perl lib, but better safe than sorry...So in effect this package can be seen as a perl5 lib upgrade too.
Perl modules that were added are (at least):

Apache-ASP-2.45
Apache-Clean-0.05
Apache-Filter-1.019
Apache-SSI-2.17
Compress-Zlib-1.16
DBD-CSV-0.2002
Devel-Symdump-2.03
HTML-Clean-0.8
HTML-FillInForm-1.00
HTML-SimpleParse-0.10
MLDBM-2.01
MLDBM-Sync-0.30
Tie-TextDir-0.04
SQL-Statement-1.004
Text-CSV_XS-0.23
Time-HiRes-1.38

But I've probably missed one or two...perl package dependency is a nightmare when you cannot use the CPAN installation procedure (requires a functional make + C compiler)

The example ASP + online docs are part of the package and can be reached after installion via http://your.freesco.ip/asp/index.html.

Two Apache::ASP applications are also in the package, one is a site search, the other an online bookmarks manager.
These apps can be found in /www/asp/apps.
Default they use /tmp as a working directory. So take care if you're running low on ram disk space, better change the .htaccess files to use another working directory.

The installation script will print some instuctions at the end of the install how to get the EXAMPLES working. This is also mentioned in the INSTALL section of the online docs.

To get the apps going you'll need to add 'AllowOverRide All' for .htaccess files in your httpd.conf file or use the 'Directory' directive in your httpd.conf for these specific directories. Also mentioned in the Apache::ASP docs. Read them!

When you uninstall the package for some reason I cannot imagine , only the Apache::ASP module will be erased from the perl lib directories as well as all the /www/asp stuff.

Apache WEB server Comes with integrated PHP and PERL .So if you have these packages, remove them. MySQL is supported using the current MySQL package.  Also contains a new 2.0.38 kernel with VIPC enabled. This package makes backups of kernel and rc_httpd. It is also fully configured to run without any changes.
Minimum hardware - 486/66 or better, with no less than 16mb of ram and 10 Mb hard drive space.  The recommended system would be a Pentium quality PC with 64 MB of RAM and as much HDD space as you would like.

BitchX is a VERY heavily modified ircII client.

It includes many things such as built in CDCC (XDCC) offering, built in flood protection, etc.
It is easier to script things in BitchX because unlike plain, vanilla ircII, half the script does not have to be devoted to changing the appearance of ircII.

Bootlogo uses the seejpeg program to show a gif image a boot up on tty6.

You can use the program to view any jpeg, gif, bmp and some other graphic formatted files you may have in Freesco (web server files for example).

You can change the boot logo and even put several of them, seejpeg will cycle them. Includes config files so you can try to get the maximum
resolution from your graphic adapted. By default, they are set to minimum standards, I tested on my 386SX/16 w/8mb ram and a 256k trident and it worked, so i guess that it will work on every machine.

For what it's worth, I have (finally) made a package for the Big Sister network monitor. I have been struggling with it for quite some time, and although is much harder to maintain and configure than NetSaint it has some nice features also:

- completely written in perl
- a Big Brother clone
- integration with RRDtool for automatic graph creation

For those not familiar with Big Sister (BS ), it's homepage can be found HERE

I haven't made a howto for FREESCO yet, so study the documentation on the original site carefully.

Requirements

The full perl package
The sysstat package
The rrdtool package (if you want the graphs)
An HTTP server with CGI support (oops, standard with FREESCO )

The Admin and Alarms account+password in the http://your.freesco.ip/bs display is default admin and bigsister. If you want to change that, edit the .htpasswd file in /www/cgi/bs/admin.

After the installation edit the uxmon-net file in /mnt/router/packages/bs/adm to match your FREESCO box configuration. The default config *WILL* work without modification, so you may want to do a 'rc_bs start' if you're curious/lazy/whatever

For a FREESCO router which has no high-capacity tape drive fitted but which does have access to a CD burner (either on-board or via another networked machine), and plenty of spare disc for some large temporary files, a useful and convenient alternative for backing up is to burn multiple CDs. If this description fits your situation then this package may be for you.

This package is based on the backup script described on the page http://www.bluehaze.com.au/unix/cdbkup.html
I have merely collected and sometimes build the required binaries, copied the HTML doc, added a nice title screen and hacked the script for the FREESCO directory structure. Oh yeah, and finally packaged the lot for y'all to use.  Oh, and I've taken the liberty to rename the script from backup to cdbackup to not interfere with the existing backup command, which writes your config files to the original FREESCO boot floppy.  What the package will do after installation and issuing the command cdbackup (which will fire the script) is:

build a file list of stuff to backup

build one or more 630 Mb images using cpio and a dedicated tool fsplit.

After this process has completed succesfully (any errors are printed afterwards, where # of blocks being normal completion) the resulting *.cpio.* file(s) and the generated list file should be transferred to the machine with the CD burner. This can be done using Samba or FTP (make sure to do a binary transfer!). Burn the stuff on one or more CDs. Done!

What the package will *NOT* do, is burn the CDs for you. There is also no restore script included, the HTML docs describe procedures to restore your stuff from the images in case of an emercency. This requires some of the binaries in this package, I therfore urge you to also put the bin files on one of the CDs you're burning, better safe than sorry!

The list that is build excludes some stuff (e.g. the /proc and /dev directories), if you want to change that you'll have to go in and edit the script. The destination for the backups is default /mnt/router/packages/cdbackup/backups and this also implies that, yes, you'll have to have at least the same amount of disk space free on your HD as you're backing up. A better approach would be to add an additional empty HD for the backups. In that case you'll also have to go in and change the script. All settings are defined in the beginning of the code, as well at the excluded (-e) stuff. Just have a look and it will be clear (I hope).

The HTML docs will be available after installation at http://your.freesco.ip/cdbackup/cdbackup.htm
(it's a mirror of the page of Tony Sanderson, the creator of the original script).

On request from Peter "TheLight55" I've composed this package for dialog. This is a ncurses based program to display al kinds of user interfaces (e.g. message box, progress indicator) on a console terminal.
I have added a fix in the install script to create the /usr/share/terminfo in case it's not there. This will fix the "Error opening terminal: linux." error.

The fix will create a directory /mnt/router/usr with the required share directory tree. Then a link is made to /usr/share. The same test is done in the startup script rc_dialog.

People that already have a /usr/share but no terminfo should do the following *BEFORE* installing this package:

cd /usr/share

look for a directory terminfo, if not there do:

mkdir ./terminfo
mkdir ./terminfo/l
cd terminfo/l
ln -fs /usr/lib/terminfo/l/linux /usr/share/terminfo/l/linux

You may have to add this to your rc_user to do this at a reboot. (until an update is made)

The Domain Name Relay Daemon (DNRD) is a simple "proxy" name server.
It is meant to be used for home networks that can connect to the internet
using one of several ISP's.

DNRD is pretty simple. It takes DNS queries from hosts, and forwards them to the "real" DNS server. It takes DNS replies from the DNS server, and forwards them to the client. What makes DNRD special is that it can be configured to forward to different DNS servers depending on what ISP you are dialing.

This patched version of DNRD 2.10 (aptly named 2.10a) incorporates several bug fixes, specially in the buffer overflow and memory leak department. It solves many situations where misbehaved DNS servers would cause DNRD to quit working, issuing the "Closing tcp connection" log message.

It also incorporates Bako's previous improvements: it reads the static and dynamic DHCP leases and automatically adds them to the master DNS database.

Please note this package is still to large (a bit larger even ) to fit on a floppy but for all those already using DNRD of wanting to have their dhcpd client hostnames automatically added to their DNS database you can reinstall this over the original FREESCO DNS server or over dnrd.

The installation script takes care of previous versions.

This patched version will be included in the upcoming FREESCO v0.3.0

Its working, Now have dnrd repacked so that it can read your static and dynamic dhcp leases and add them to the master DNS database.  The complete process is automated (well actually its added to a script freesco already runs every 10 seconds ) so you can just install and forget about it....
Please note this package is still to large (a bit larger even ) to fit on a floppy but for all those already using dnrd of wanting to have their dhcpd client hostnames automatically added to their DNS database you can reinstall this over the original freesco DNS server or over dnrd.

An alternative forwarding dns server to the built in bind 4.9.3.  May be useful to people whose ISP blocks incoming packets to ports less than 1024 which prevent named from working correctly.  Currently experimental but expected to be built into the next version of freesco. Based on the DNS2Go perl client script I have made a package for the FREE dynamic DNS service by Deerfield:   http://dns2go.deerfield.com/
Requirements
- perl 5.6.1 package

- GNU tar binary (utils package)

- DNS2Go account (sign up for free)

- aprox. 1.1Mb free disk space.

The reason why the disk space requirement is rather steep for such a simple perl script, is because this package contains all the perl modules required for this client.

These perl 5.6.1 modules (LWP, HTML::Tagset, HTTP::Parser, libnet, URI, Digest::MD5, MIME::Base64 and libwww-perl) are *not* removed when the dns2go client package is removed from your system.
In other words, this package can also be used to install above mentioned perl modules by just installing and removing it again.

Post Installation
------------------
Get a free DNS2Go account (if you have not done so already) at
http://dns2go.deerfield.com/
Then edit the dns2go.pl script in /mnt/router/packages/dns2go and
change the domainname and key values (see comments in script)
The key value will be sent to you via email when you register your
DNS2Go domain

Then type 'rc_dns2go start' to notify the Deerfield DNS servers
of your current IP address

People with a dial-up freesco box should probably add the next
commands to their /etc/ppp/ip-up and /etc/ppp/ip-down scripts:

ip-up: add 'rc_dns2go start' (without the quotes) where it says
# Add commands here
ip-down: add 'rc_dns2go stop' (without the quotes) where it says
# Add commands here

Enjoy!
dingetje (http://dingetje.homeip.net)

I have not yet tested this for a dialup router, so I'd like to get some feedback how and if that is working.

I proudly announce the package release for dnsmasq. Thanks to Bluenorth and Simon Kelly (author of dnsmasq), we got a new dns cache forwarder working for FREESCO.

http://thekelleys.org.uk/dnsmasq/doc.html

This is a BETA release, only to test functionality on as many systems as possible (only v0.2.x) before including it in the upcoming FREESCO v0.3.2.

dnsmasq binary is smaller, uses less memory/CPU and its very stable. Overall it seems very solid, so its up to all of you to give it a try and post any success/horror stories in the 3rd Party Support forum.

Consult Freesco forum for details if you want to do a manual update. A manual update is less than 2k This package may fit and run on a floppy but is intended for hard drive installs. 20k installed. If you plan on installing another package that replaces your usr.cgi you need to remove this package FIRST and then reinstall it after you install the other package like eXtremail with web control. Because this does not replace your usr.cgi it updates the one you are currently running. If you have any problems removepkg dyndns and all preinstall settings will be restored.

I downloaded Richards package and looked it over thoroughly. I then made a post and stated what had to be done to make his package run. At that point I should have stopped but couldn't.
I have repaired his package completely and added a log manager. There is no web control and it is basicly Richards package. Just with a changed rc file, some extra features in the install to make it much easier to install, some more documentation to help the installer and a log manager.

filefind uses find and grep in FREESCO to list files according to a pattern supplied by the user.
USAGE : ffind [-m] pattern
-m : searches whole of current mount. Without this option only the current directory and subdirectories are searched.
ffind is a very simple packaged script to find files, since the find included in FREESCO is a little temperamental.
"If its very simple, why package it?" I hear you cry... well, while its very simple, so are some newbies to FREESCO, at least in Linux terms (myself included).

freetime is a replacement for the official FREESCO synctime script. The synctime script performs these actions to set the local time:

1) set local clock using data via internet from NTP server. This time is in UTC.
2) compute time correction based on local time zone
3) set local clock again with corrected time.

Although there is very little time between steps 1 and 3 the local clock will show a "time warp" between UTC and local time. This can cause strange side effects for some applications that rely on the local clock.
This freetime package performs these 3 steps in one single clock set action, thus preventing large jumps back-and-forth.

If you do NOT run your FREESCO in a time zone (i.e. use UTC/GMT time zone), than you do NOT need this package. Although it doesn't hurt either ;)

It reports what it has done in a file /tmp/freetime.log and in case of errors, a file /tmp/freetime.err will probably tell you what's wrong.

This 0.3 package is an update for my earlier freetime package.
This version will tell you the result of synctime when executed on the command line.

It is also more robust in it's error handling. On my own machine it happened occasionally that the NTP server returned an error code, but the output from the ntpdate command contained all zero's. This is considered a valid result by the freetime C program (source included), which resulted in my clock being set forward with 2 hours (the current offset to GMT here in The Netherlands is +0200). Talking about a "time warp"!!
An error condition from the ntpdate command is now handled correctly i.e. the clock sync will NOT take place and the error is logged in the above mentioned file.

A Windows PC client to sync your workstations with the time on FREESCO is also available. Search for FreeTimeClient.

I have now made a package that allows you to change all of your firewall rules on a web interfuse.

This is a quite powerful plug in if used in the correct way.
There are 3 modes to set up this package.
1. Disable it completely to only use rc_masq
2. Use a combination of rc_masq and fwcontroll
3. Use only fwcontroll

The rule sets:
[Input] Rules for accessing from out side
[Forward] Forwarding rules.
[Output] Rules for accessing from in side
[Accounting] Accounting rules
Turn ON and OFF debug mode
No changes are made to your rules in
DEBUG=ON mode
In debug mode you will get a out put in a debut window instead of actually change the rules.

Default instalation is :
FWMODE=3
DEBUG=ON

What is gnuplot? The FAQ is here http://www.ucc.ie/gnuplot/gnuplot-faq.html

Requirements

lewy-lib package
HD based FREESCO box
aprox 2.7Mb free disk space

Demo scripts

Some of them (I was too lazy to do them all) will create (multiple) PNG file(s).

My 1st package. I had to choose an easy one to begin with.

The GPM (General Purpose Mouse) is a mouse server for the console made by Nico Schottelius.
It supports the following computer mice:

The "MouseMan" and similar devices.
The original ms protocol, with a middle-button extension.
Unadorned ms protocol. Needed with some 2-buttons mice.
Mouse-Systems-Compatible (5bytes). Most 3-button mice.
'msc' protocol, but only 3 bytes per packet.
MM series. Probably an old protocol...
Some few other Logitech devices (only serial).
Microsoft busmice and compatible devices.
Busmice of the ps/2 series. Most busmice, actually.
Ncr3125pen, found on some laptops
Wacom tablet
"Genitizer" tablet, in relative mode.
Turn logitech into Mouse-Systems-Compatible.
Plug and pray for mouse that dont run with standard protocol.
Microsoft Intellimouse (ps2) - 3 buttons, wheel unused
Microsoft Intellimouse (serial) - 3 buttons, wheel unused
Genius NetMouse - 2 buttons and 2 buttons 'up'/'down'.
Twidddler keyboard
Joystick mouse emulation

Now why use a mouse when I'm in console mode? Some, few apps are mouse aware like the shell itself: make a selection on the screen and right click. Voil?, the text is paste at the Linux prompt.
I was disappointed to find that mc was not mouse aware.
I know that every FREESCO were anxiously waiting for that one and it will change the way you used to do networking. Sorry to make your dream come true (of course I'm joking).

Guardian is a tool used with snort that will block ip:s based on alert:s from snort.

1. What is guardian?

Guardian is a security tool which will issue commands to the OS to block ip addresses which attacks may be coming from. Guardian requires an IDS (Intrusion detection system), and currently only works with snort. Future releases will work with other systems.

2. Blocking based on IDS results!? What about false positives?

The idea behind guardian is that it's better to be safe than sorry. It also assumes that you know how to configure the IDS so that false positives are minimized. Guardian also has a list of ip addresses which should not be blocked. This list is user definable. The filename is called "guardian.ignore". More on that later.

3. Are there any risks with running this?

Yes, there are risks.. The biggest risk is misconfiguration and false positives. If you don't have a good ignore list, chances are really good that an host will get blocked that you didn't want blocked. Most common (in my experience) is name servers getting blocked. Running guardian on a system with DHCP can be tricky as well, since your IP address, name servers, gateway, etc can change without you knowing.

This package requires snort and perl to be installed.
and you must know a bit about snort to make sure that you wont block every false alarm.

It is now possible using hotwayd in conjunction with your favorite POP3 implementing mail reader. Hotwayd allows you to do this by using the HTTPMail protocol, the same protocol that Outlook Express[tm] uses, to access the hotmail servers. HTTPMail is based on WebDAV, and is a way to access remote resources using simple HTTP requests (which means that you can also access it via a proxy server as well!). Hotwayd itself acts as a proxy between your POP mail reader and the HTTPMail servers. Simply set it up as an Internet service on your machine or another machine on your network and enjoy using your favorite mail client via the POP3 protocol to collect your HTTPMail emails.

This package can be installed on top of the old hotwayd 0.5 package.

This package builds an index of all words on a specific web site and then search from search form (or from search.html file).
It doesn't use any external database. Indexing and searching seems to be very fast.
Basic configuration is simple - you probably do not have to change anything but an url of your site. However you can specifie a words and files that won't be indexed, you can change algorithm of searching and much more.
Documentation included. This package contains a latest stable release of ht://dig.

As a personal word of advice.  Do not use this on any of the FREESCOsoft sites.  We have included a search engine/feature on the site already.  Please do not increase our traffic if it is not necessary. We try and make it as  easy for every one as possible, please use what we offer.  But we do understand the need for this package, so have no problem listing it here, even though it could possible be used to damage FREESCOsoft (in the long run, big picture of bandwidth).  We do have to be fair, and fair is fair to one and all.

The IkONBOARd home page is located http://www.ikonboard.com/

This package contains all required stuff (the ib301 kit and perl mysql modules) to set it up on freesco.
The pre-requirements are pretty stiff:

The FULL PERL package by ECO (NOT Apache with built-in perl support)
The mySQL package
The exim package as the local SMTP server for e-mails
The lewy-lib package for several of the required libs.
And most of all .... a fast CPU, sufficient memory and HD space to host a forum.
The ib3 package will check for the existence of each of these packages.

Part of the installation is a step-by-step howto, specific for FREESCO. This page is at http://your.freesco.ip/ib3/howto.html

An uploaded files, permission problem has been noted.
Please follow the information below to fix this.

The uploads dir should stay with the permissions of 777 otherwise file upload will not work at all.
Apply a patch to the module /www/cgi/iconboard3/Sources/Post.pm   near line 917

You will see some "gibberish" PERL code near this line, look for the line with:

close (OUTFILE);

This line is followed by a chmod call, change that to:

Save it. Test it.
You will see that newly uploaded files are now 644, no longer executable, no longer writeable for the world (yuk).

This package is a kernel upgrade to 2.0.39 with the icmp leak patch. There are two kernels that can be used. One stock and one for apache. This package also updates the modules.tgz for all of the newer modules. Once installed you can use the Modules-030.zip for specific drivers needed. This package will install on floppies and on hard drives which includes an uninstall. Floppy users will note around a 70k gain in free space as the new kernel is compressed.
Only limited testing has been done for install, uninstall and for running on my machine.

A Note :
If you use a driver from the Modules-030.zip it is required that you uncompress them to work in 027. The following commands should work after you have copied the module to the drv directory. In the example here 'mod-name' is replaced with the module name, ./mod-name.gz would equal ./eepro100.gz

cd /mnt/router/drv
zcat (lessthan symbol)./mod-name.gz(greaterthan symbol)./mod-name.o
rm ./mod-name.gz
sync
sync

Also if you need to use the pci-scan.o module. Make certain it is the first module that you copy to the drv direcory and uncompress it first. As modules are loaded in the same order they are on the disk and it has to load first to work.

zcat (lessthan symbol)./pci-scan.gz (greaterthan symbol)./0pci-scan.o

Idled (pronounced idle-dee) is a program that will run in the background on a machine and monitor the current tty sessions. It can be configured to log out users that have been idle for too long or logged on for too long. It can also prevent users from being logged in too many times, and refuse users from being logged in at all.

Based on http://www.ex-parrot.com/~pdw/iftop/

iftop does for network usage what top(1) does for CPU usage. It listens to network traffic on a named interface and displays a table of current bandwidth usage by pairs of hosts. Handy for answering the question "why is our ADSL link so slow?".

The FREESCO package requires lewy-lib package to be installed first! (install script checks for this).

I had to hack the code a bit, so the default NIC to get monitored is always eth0, even if you don't have one! The man page (also in the package) explains the command line options to tell iftop what interface to monitor, or simply start iftop with the -h switch for a short usage message.

inetd is a program that automatically starts a program that is associated with a port.  E.G. samba swat is only started when there is a request on port 901 and there for not taking any system resources while there is no requests. proftpd can be set up this way to and a lot off other programs as well..

This package is required for samba swat.

The iptotal package is a network usage monitor without the need for an SNMP daemon.
It is based on an *extremely* simple network sniffer using the libpcap library available at http://www.tcpdump.org/
I have developed this tool because the numbers reported by the SNMP daemon on my FREESCO box where way too low (about 3 to 5 times too low). I have checked this with snmpget. This is also the reason why the MRTG graphs are showing the wrong numbers.

Features include :
Last 2 hr, daily, weekly, monthly and year graphs ; automatic archive of last 30 daily graphs ; archive CGI to show thumbnails of last 30 day graphs ; seperate CGI for each graph, except for last 2 hr and last 24 hr. ; totals printed in graph page ; totals in floating point instead of integer values (iptotal 0.2) ; low CPU load ; small memory foot print
UPDATE

I've found a bug in my iptotal package, the effect is that the 30 day daily archive is not cleaned up correctly.

Here's the fix:

1. edit /mnt/router/packages/iptotal/bin/iptotald
2. look for these lines and change as seen here:

-------------

#
# now remove files older than 30 days from archive
#
${ROOT_DIR}/bin/find ${ARCHIVE}/*.png -mtime 30 -type f exec rm -rf {} \;

--------------

3. save
4. rc_iptotal restart

Sorry for any inconvenience.

Tip: copy/paste the line with the find command from this.

I'm proud to announce the release of the LPRng 3.8.12 package for freesco 0.2.7.

LPRng (LPR next generation) is a full featured LPD server + client package. For details check http://www.lprng.com

This package will replace the standard LPD server that comes with freesco. A backup of your current rc_lpd startup script is saved so when you remove LPRng the original situation should be restored.

Advantages
----------
* supports printing to almost any linux device as well as remote network printers (using LPD protocol)

* compatible with SAMBA (!), so you can (finally) share your queues the easy way with windoze clients

* uses /etc/printcap for virtual unlimited number of queues

* state-of-the-art LPD server + client software used by a lot of "big" *nix distro's

* Well documented.

Disadvantages
-------------
* listens on a single port only. The freesco 2nd printerport setting is ignored. Device settings are ignored too. This is not a big disadvantage because LPRng can service a virtual unlimited number of queues via /etc/printcap.

* You'll have to reconfigure your printer queues

* You'll have to reconfigure SAMBA to share your queues

* Does not fit on a floppy based system (sorry, the package contains a rather large library)

* Not based on the latest version (cuurent version is LPRng-3.8.15), because I've had this stuff on my shelf for far too long (sorry 'bout that). Not sure what the differences are between 3.8.12 and 3.8.15.

Post Install
------------
- Edit the /etc/printcap file to match your needs. The file is heavily documented in the comments.
- Enable printer server in your freesco setup (if you've not done so already).
- Restart LPD server with rc_lpd restart
- Print a test job locally using lpr command
- [optional] Configure SAMBA to use the new queues
- [optional] Print a test job from a windoze client

Sample Installation
--------------------
[Linux] installpkg http://dingetje.homeip.net/packages/lprng_3.8.12_dingetje

* This package will replace your current printer server software *
* You'll have to re-configure your printer queue(s). *
* This package can service multiple queues at once but does not *
* support running on two different ports. *
* A backup of your current rc_lpd startup script will be saved *
* as bak.rc_lpd. This will be restored when you uninstall this *
* package. *

419204 bytes transferred in 38.12 sec (10.74k/sec)
Save a copy of the lprng_3.8.12_dingetje package in your /www directory [y/n] ? y

Installation of LPRng is complete. Enable the printer server in your
freesco setup if you haven't already done so. The device settings and 2nd
printer port are ignored (LPRng uses a single port and /etc/printcap)
Then type 'rc_lpd restart' to start the LPD server.

Now you can use:

lpr - print a job
lp - see lpr
lprm - remove a job
cancel - see lprm
lpq - show queue info
lpc - lpd control program
lpstat - lpd status tool
checkpc - checks/repairs complete lpd config (use -V for verbose info)

A (silly) sample print queue can be found in /etc/printcap
This queue will print to virtual console /dev/tty6
When you type ALT+F6 at your freesco console you should be able to see
the output of a (text only) print job
LPRng can print to virtualy any linux device as well as remote network
printers (using LPD protocol). See comments in /etc/printcap

For further config, consult the LPRng website http://www.lprng.com/
or consult the man pages (part of this package). The man pages are
also available in HTML format, so you can copy them to your web server
LPRng is compatible with SAMBA, so you can share your queue(s) with
windoze clients! Consult the LPRng and/or SAMBA HOWTO's

Enjoy!
webmaster@dingetje.homeip.net

For details/trouble shooting/configuration check the online docs at
LPRng-HOWTO and/or the man pages that are part of the package.

FREESCO specific
----------------
LPRng uses /mnt/router/packages/lprng/spool as the default spool directory. For each queue a subdir will be created. Use 'checkpc -f -V' to check/repair your configuration. A log file will be kept in each queue dir. You probably need to clean this log file from time to time.
I've not done extensive test with "real" printers yet... (doh).
Feedback is much appreciated.

Nessus is a free, powerful, up-to-date and easy to use remote security scanner. A security scanner is software which will audit remotely a given network and determine whether bad guys (aka 'crackers', 'script kiddies' ) may break into it, or misuse it in some way.
Nessus consist in fact of two components, a server doing the actual security checks, and a client to "talk" to the server and generate result reports. The security checks itself consist of so called "plugins", most are written in a dedicated scripting language called NASL, (Nessus Attack Scripting Language).
This package has been released for beta testing some time ago. This release contains the latest updated docs and some dependency checks were added in the install script. I also noticed the wrong port is blocked in firewall setting of the beta package. It blocks port 3001 where it should be 1241. This is also corrected in this version.

Requirements

lewy-lib package
utils-1 package
aprox. 12 Mb free hard disk space
lynx should be installed in /bin to allow automatic plugin updates

This package is based on NETPBM version 9.25
The NETPBM package contains aprox. 240 (!! ) command line utilities to create/convert/manipulate/etc. all kind of image files. Most tools operate on one of these 5 graphic formats:

pam - portable arbitrary map file format
pbm - portable bitmap file format
ppm - portable pixmap file format
pgm - portable graymap file format
pnm - portable anymap file format

The xxxtoyyy tools can convert between the various formats, supported are a *LOT* of formats, e.g. JPG, PNG, BMP, TIFF, etc.

All man pages are HTML-ized in the package, so you can copy or link these to your /www root for referal. Those of you with PHP can use the dir.php script to list all man pages in a table.

It's ready, the Net Saint beta package for your FREESCO box.
The Net Saint home page is http://www.netsaint.org/ (The FREESCO package is based on the latest 0.07 beta release)  For the Trends graphs and 2D Status Map the next library is also included in the package. GD Graphics Library home page: http://www.boutell.com/gd/

I've made a short Net Saint howto for FREESCO located http://dingetje.homeip.net/netsaint/docs/freesco.html

And finally to ease the setup I've added the NEAT (NetSaint Easy Admin Tool) as a bonus. After installation, the installation script will show some post install steps to take to get the first results. The really cool status maps (2D and 3D) require some additional stuff, the howto's are all available as HTML doc's in the package.  The NEAT script will be available at http://your.freesco.ip:82/cgi/netsaint/neat.cgi
After config, start netsaint with rc_netsaint start from the FREESCO command line (starting it via the NEAT panel is possible, but not right out of the box). Please RTFM first!  The results + documentation are viewable at http://your.freesco.ip:82/netsaint
BTW: the default username + password for these pages will be the same as your admin username + password for your FREESCO control panel.  If you want to add additional users or change the default, I recommend using one of the many online .htpasswd generators.  The resulting line should be copied/pasted in the .htpasswd file(s) in /wwa/netsaint and /wwa/cgi/netsaint
I have chosen the secure port 82 for this tool, because the package has too much potential security breaches to have wide open on the www. I will therefore remove the demo pages from my site shortly (sorry 'bout that...).

The first (minor) problem has been reported.
The rc_netsaint script uses the brute force method to stop the netsaint daemon with a 'killall netsaint' command. This may leave some external command 'floating' in the /mnt/router/packages/netsaint/var/rw directory. The presence of a .cmd file there will prevent netsaint to start the next time, and it will bail out.
To fix this add the next lines to your rc_netsaint if you have downloaded the first beta:

#

Based on http://www.slctech.org/~mackay/netwatch.html I've made a package for FREESCO 0.2.7.

The package is similar to iptraf, but offers a few other features, like the ability to send an e-mail when a specific text is detected inside the monitored network traffic or when a BO or NetBus attack is detected.
(I haven't tested that feature though... ;)

The tool can monitor both eth as ppp devices, but only one at the time.

The following lib's must be present on your system:

[Linux] ldd /bin/netwatch
libncurses.so.3.4 => /lib/libncurses.so.3.4 (0x40009000)
libc.so.5 => /lib/libc.so.5 (0x4004a000)

If you don't have 'em, install lewy-lib first.

The (sample) config file in /mnt/router/packages/netwatch/etc/netwatch.conf is well documented. Look it through and make required changes before starting netwatch.
After startup the 'h' key will show a help window with instructions. The 's' key can be used to cycle thru the available status bar messages.

Enjoy!

P.S.
This tool calls 'home' when it is first activated. This feature has been added by the original author to have some idea where and when the tool is installed. If you don't like that, create an empty file /.netwatch.1.0b before starting netwatch for the first time.

I've made a perl 5.6.1 add-on package for Net::SSLeay.pm (http://symlabs.com/Net_SSLeay/).
What is this?

Net::SSLeay.pm is a perl module that allows you to call Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) functions of the SSLeay library directly from your perl scripts. It is useful if you want to program robots that access secure web servers or if you want to build your own applications over SSL encrypted tunnels. If you just want to view web pages on https servers, you do not need this - your web browser already knows to do that.

Requirements
- OpenSSL package by nadegda for freesco 027
- perl 5.6.1 package
- freesco 027 box, doh ;-)

I've compiled the no-ip client a few months back, and made it available in a tarball.
Installation from a tarball is not always a pleasure, specially if you're a freesco newbie. That's why I've made this package after all.

no-ip is a free dynamic DNS service. This package is based on the v1.6 Linux client that is available at http://www.no-ip.com/downloads.php

Requirements
* Sign up for an IP-Free account at http://www.no-ip.com
* Aprox. 360K free disk space (during install).

The installation script will ask if you want to create the no-ip configuration file at the end of the installation. Just answer a few simple questions and the config file will be created.
This step will be skipped if you've already have a no-ip.conf file in /mnt/router/packages/noip_client/etc.
Make sure to pick the freesco device which IP address you want to get assigned to the no-ip domain name. If you're not sure which one that is, type ifconfig and your network devices will get listed.

After checking your no-ip.conf file, start the client with rc_noip_client restart , wait a few seconds and type rc_noip_client status.

Here's a sample status report:
---------------------------------------------
Oct 19 16:45:28 - noip[27955]: noip started as a background process
Oct 19 16:45:28 - noip[27955]: ! LIA = ....... ip=217.120.230.161, IP = 217.120.230.161
Oct 19 16:45:28 - noip[27955]: dingetje.hopto.org was already set to 217.120.230.161.
---------------------------------------------

If you want to save diskspace you can remove all files EXCEPT the noip binary from /mnt/router/packages/noip_client/bin. You can edit the config file with your favorite editor instead of using the make_config script.

This BETA package (!) installs an OpenLDAP server on your FREESCO box.

LDAP can be used for a central address book for e-mail clients, but it can also be deployed for services that require authentication like samba.

The package has been compiled against Cyrus SASL 2.1.9 library and OpenSSL 0.9.6g as made for FREESCO by nadegda

The package comes with a sample "stooges" address book that I "borrowed" from this great tutorial, almost everything you'll need to know (about OpenLDAP that is... ;) can be found here:

http://www.direct-to-linux.com/TUTORIALS/LinuxTutorialLDAP.html

Another tutorial for OpenLDAP + Netscape:
http://www.cerritoslug.org/tutorials/ldap/

And here's another:
http://www.bayour.com/LDAPv3-HOWTO.html

Here's a howto for OpenLDAP+SSL:
http://www.raphinou.com/ldaps/LDAP-SSL.HOWTO

Using the secure LDAPS over SSL requires that you create/get a CA certificate and server key for your FREESCO box. I managed to get this setup working with Netscape Messenger Address Book, but failed to do so for Outlook Express :(
(TIP: to load the certificate into Netscape's certificate cache, use https://your.freesco.ip:636, the new certificate dialog should show, step thru the wizard and you're all set. To load into Outlook, see forum)

The demo slapd.conf contains a simple plain text password for authentications for adding entries in the "stooges" database.
This is *NOT* recommended...

You can generate a hashed password using the slappasswd tool:

[Linux] slappasswd
New password:
Re-enter new password:
{SSHA}hq+XQqSCOP5Z8eD0EQpm5/VBnRTHkfbT

Put the result in your slapd.conf after the rootpw keyword.

The package is rather big (6Mb download + 17Mb installed) due to all the included libraries (some of which are probably not required for "normal" operation).

Requirements
- Aprox. 24Mb free HD space
- 32Mb or more RAM
- RTFM

Default the package will block the LDAP and LDAPS ports (389 and 636 resp.) from the internet. If you want to have a public available LDAP directory, you'll have to comment out the firewall rules in the /rc/rcuser/rc_openldap script.

I'd appreciate some feedback on this package, in the basic config it's pretty straightforward (provided you succeed in creating a correct LDIF file to populate your address book), but more complex and secure setup requires a bit mambo jambo and black magic I'm afraid...

I will *NOT* respond to howto questions! You're on your own...

OpenSSH is a FREE version of the SSH protocol suite of network connectivity tools that increasing numbers of people on the Internet are coming to rely on. Many users of telnet, rlogin, ftp, and other such programs might not realize that their password is transmitted across the Internet unencrypted, but it is. OpenSSH encrypts all traffic (including passwords) to effectively eliminate eavesdropping, connection hijacking, and other network-level attacks. Additionally, OpenSSH provides a myriad of secure tunneling capabilities, as well as a variety of authentication methods.

See http://www.openssh.org for more details.

This package is based on version 3.7.1p1 and is a mandatory upgrade over older versions. The package contains both the server (sshd) as the client (ssh) binaries. Default the OpenSSH port (22) is blocked from the internet. To modify that, you'll have to comment out the firewall rule in the rc_opensshd script.

This is the first release of perl 5.6.1, it is based on my beta package from a few months ago.
No serious mishaps have been reported, so I'd guess it's time to release it to y'all.
There's also another reason for releasing it now, namely the upcoming new Apache 1.3.26 package. This Apache is compiled with mod_perl support and needs perl 5.6.1 to work.

This package can safely be installed on top of the old perl (by ECO, version 5.005.03) but of course it can also be installed standalone.

The requirements are:

- lewy-lib package
- aprox. 35 Mb free HD space
- sufficient free inodes (a lot of symbolic links will be required! ), install the bigger ramdisk first if needed.
- sufficient free RAM and CPU power (perl is a resource hog)

phpSysInfo is a customizable PHP Script that parses /proc, and formats information nicely. It will display information about system facts like Uptime, CPU, Memory, PCI devices, SCSI devices, IDE devices, Network adapters, Disk usage, and more.

With dingetje's approval, and based on his previous package, I've added a few new features and tweaks that fit nicely in FREEESCO.

What's new since 2.0p1
-----------------------

- added multilingual support to Apache Status (submit your language translation for future releases)
- added 'who' binary from zipslack (used by function users() )
- fixed the cpu_info function (added model and vendor_id info, as well as manually set cache support, also dissabled non i386 code, and rearranged the array)
- imported the newer language templates from 2.1 (much better than 2.0) and added the new apache keys.
- added IDE support (modified the existing functions to parse dmesg)
- removed other OS's templates (not needed for FREESCO anyways)
- rearranged all the visual themes to fit nicely with the new table sizes.

The requirements are:
- a PHP enabled webserver, preferably Apache
- lynx (included in the mc package)

For the Apache status to work, you'll need to modify your httpd.conf as described in the README.FREESCO and both /bin/lynx and /bin/awk should be present.
Basically if you do this:
[Linux] cd /mnt/router/packages/apache/bin
[Linux] apachectl status
and you get a status report, the Apache status in phpsysinfo will work too.

For the network stats to work, make sure to add IP accounting rules as described in the README.FREESCO.
Without these rules the script does a "best guess" based on the network package counters.

Please contribute to translate Apache Status in your language... mail me your translation to be included in the next release.

This package is based on phpSysInfo 2.1 but (heavily) modified so it will work with freesco.

Requirements
* A PHP 4.x enabled web server
* Aprox. 800Kb free disk space in your /www root
* some modifications in your Apache httpd.conf if you want the Apache status report to work (see README.FREESCO)
* /bin/lynx must be present for the Apache status report to work. When not present the installation script will suggest you to install the Midnight Command package mc first.

Notes
* Read the README.FREESCO in the package (ends up in /www/phpsysinfo-2.1) for details.
* If you don't have Apache or want to disable the Apache status report, set the APACHE_REPORT flag to 0 in index.php and remove the line with {apache} from all template's form.tpl file.
* Network traffic is "best guess" unless you enable IP accounting. Details in the README.FREESCO file.
* My language skills are limited, so please correct your language file for the newly added Apache texts.
* A Demo? See http://dingetje.homeip.net/phpsysinfo-2.1/index.php
* It's my impression that phpSysInfo 2.1 is slower than phpSysInfo 2.0. I think it's because of the new XML feature.
* XML output can be generated by adding ?template=xml to the URL. See http://dingetje.homeip.net/phpsysinfo-2.1/index.php?template=xml

I've made an upgrade package for PHP 4.2.2 (security upgrade) as suggested on http://www.php.net

This package is an upgrade of the existing Apache PHP module and also contains some libs that are added to the lewy-lib directory (and eventually get linked to /lib).

I have tested the package with both the old Lightning Apache package (comes with PHP 4.0.5) and my Apache 1.3.26 package (comes with PHP 4.2.1).
Also an Apache install with Lightning's PHP 4.2.1 upgrade can safely be upgraded with this package.

Requirements
- Sufficient free diskspace (aprox. 5.5 Mb)
- Lewy-lib package
- One of the Apache packages

With this upgrade in place your http://your.freesco.ip/test.php page should show PHP 4.2.2 with the following options enabled:

* GD (Graphics library) support with JPEG and PNG format (no GIF sorry, copyrighted...)
* FreeType (True Type Font) support
* sockets
* FTP
* mySQL (sorry no mSQL)
* '--enable-trans-sid' as requested here
* zlib
* SysV shared memory
* etc.

This upgrade package allows to use nice PHP tools like:

* Upla (Uptime Look Alike package) see my signature on the forum
* dynamically generated images, like http://dingetje.homeip.net/php/html_graph/HTML_Graphs_Example.php .
* True Type Font support like http://dingetje.homeip.net/php/ttf.php?font=arial.ttf
(yes, you can use TTF files from your windoze box).

There may be a problem with PHP sockets, I failed to find all of the required macro's (missing in zipslack's aging include files) and ended up commenting out the offending lines (yeah, I know, a lame thing to do)

I've tested a small PHP script that uses sockets to 'talk' to an SMTP mail server and that seemed to work.
Enjoy ;)

THTTPD-2.21b internal module with PHP-4.0.5 as cgi.
PHP package "can't load library 'lic.so.5' " Error

If you install the version of thttpd (package named php) that has PHP and mSQL support, it's libc.so.5 may be too large to fit on your ramdisk.. so, in /rc/rc_httpd, you may need to replace the following lines, if you get errors.

Replace these two lines
rm /lib/libc.so.5
cp /mnt/router/something/libc.so.5 /lib

With this single line
ln -sf /mnt/router/'something'/libc.so.5 /lib/libc.so.5

(I may not remember those exactly, i'm not looking at my box right now)
which will symlink it over, without having to take up the ramdrive space that you don't have.

I also found in another post from WAPR

bug in a code...:(
do:
1. boot in a dos mode
2. go to c:\router\packages\lib
3. find there libc*.* (must have 0 bytes) and delete it.
4. boot freesco and funny.

This is my bug, sorry. I will solve this problem in next version.

PimpBNC is a free Perl script for sharing one IRC connection to several clients.  It runs on a machine that is connected to the Internett 24/7, maintains a connection to IRC, accepts connections from clients so that it can "tunnel" information between them.  Great for using virtual hosts (vhosts) on IRC even if your'e not online all the time.

Basically this means that you can run mIRC and Eggdrop on the same nick.  You could also pack BitchX and Eggdrop full of scripts, have them run your channels together and connect with your favorite IRC client when you log on.  (It also works as a perfeclty normal stable bouncer like bnc/muh/psyBNC)

This package requires:  The perl package

I made scripts to make it easy to forward ports for a special application.  These scripts are easy to run and
e.g. run from one of the scripts:

This package requires:  The multiportf package

[Linux] aimtalk
AIM Talk

if you want to abort leave ip adress empty
enter ip adress to forward to [xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx] 192.168.0.2
want to restart rc_portf [y/n]?n
[Linux]

The 17 application scripts created are:

aimtalk , battlecom , Battlenet , buddyphone , calistaIPphone , CuSeeMe , GNUtella , HalflifeServer , HereticIIServer , icq , irc , kazaa , msnMessanger , Napster , RogerWilco , YahooMessengerChat and YahooMessengerPhone

If you have a suggestion on a application I shall add please tell me and preferable whit ports to forward.

I'm afraid I've done it again, made yet another package for freesco 027, here are the introduction, version, etc.

PortSentry is a program designed to detect and respond to port scans against a target host in real-time. Some of its more useful features include:
A.. Runs on TCP and UDP sockets to detect port scans against your system. PortSentry is configurable to run on multiple sockets at the same time so you only need to start one copy to cover dozens of tripwired services.
B.. Stealth scan detection (Linux only right now). PortSentry will detect SYN/half-open, FIN, NULL, X-MAS and oddball packet stealth scans. Four stealth scan operation modes are available for you to choose from.
C.. PortSentry will react to a port scan attempt by blocking the host in real-time. This is done through configured options of either dropping the local route back to the attacker, using the Linux ipfwadm (firewall) command.
D.. PortSentry has an internal state engine to remember hosts that connected previously. This allows the setting of a trigger value to prevent false alarms and detect "random" port probing.
E.. PortSentry will report all violations to the local or remote syslog daemons indicating the system name, time of attack, attacking host IP and the TCP or UDP port a connection attempt was made to. When used in conjunction with logcheck it will provide an alert to administrators through e-mail.
F.. Once a scan is detected your system will turn into a blackhole and disappear from the attacker. This feature stops most attacks cold.

I will *NOT* support this package in any way, other than bug fixes (if any). Basically you're on your own to configure the package to your liking. After installation it's default configured for a 192.168.0.x network and the KILL_ROUTE is using ipfwadm to reject access.  I *strongly* suggest to read the README.* files in /mnt/router/packages/portsentry after installation *BEFORE* even attempting to start portsentry. Log messages from portsentry will end up in /var/log/log and in combination with the logcheck package (also on my site) you can even receive e-mail when an attack is detected.

Privoxy has a very flexible configuration and can be customized to suit individual needs and tastes. Privoxy has application for both stand-alone systems and multi-user networks.

Privoxy is based on Internet Junkbuster (tm).

This FREESCO package is based on stable release version 3.0.2.
The user-manual is available inside the package. Privoxy comes with a built in web control panel.

Config file is: /mnt/router/packages/privoxy/etc/config
Make sure to browse through the file at least once after install.
Pay special attention to the directives 'listen-adres' and 'permit-access'.

Default privoxy is configured for port 8118 which will be blocked from the internet in rc_privoxy script. Comment out the rule to make privoxy accessible from the internet.
'listen-adres' is set to :8118 which means it will bind to ALL IP's of your FREESCO box.
'permit-access' is set to 192.168.0.0/24, so if your network matches this setup you can start privoxy "out of the box", else you MUST change this setting.

A Distributed.net personal proxy. This allows clients running behind the firewall to flush/fetch to this, instead of the official d.net proxy servers. Some clients have difficulty detecting when a connection is up/down, so this will bypass that problem. (assume you leave your router on) This uses less than 1% cpu resources on a Pentium 100, so should be minimal load on any system.

You need to download the latest binaries from d.net as they are updated quite often. ProxyPer v0.333 is the first that will work with FREESCO, and that was released mid-December.

I'm not too sure about the requirements, but I assume you'll need both utils (util-1 and util-2) packages and lewy-lib.
The package is really really big (12.5 Mb packed) and unpacks to a whopping 52 Mb (I guess floppy install is out of the question ). I strongly suggest to only install it on machines with sufficient CPU power (Pentium class) and RAM to spare.

More about Python at http://www.python.org/

The reason why the package is so big is because I've included most of the original installation kit, including all tools, demos, sources and documentation (in TeX format )
A stripped down version with only the required binaries + libs is maybe a good idea? But don't get your hopes up too much, that will still be a pretty big package.

Python is a scripting language, much like Perl, but python modules can also be compiled into executable code (I'm told...).
Python comes with it's own document server, called pydoc. You can start if after installation of the package with:

fork /mnt/router/packages/python/bin/pydoc -p 83

Now point your favorite browser to http://dingetje.homeip.net/howto/packages/python/pydoc.jpg and the python document server should pop up (click the link to see a sample screenshot).
Stop the document server with a killall pydoc when you're done.

Freesco now can play Quake!

ttyquake is a character based display (aalib based) version of quake. This runs via telnet, ssh or puTTY! Run /bin/ttyquake and scream! (and remember to breathe!!) /bin/squake is a local console (for graphics mode) if you really want to remember what it looks like.

I packaged it, but did not complile any of it. It _should_ run with only the lewy-lib package installed. Read the ./README.freesco for some help.

Included is the SHAREWARE version of the pak0.pak file. The pak file from a Registered or Retail version of quake is reported to work too.

It leaves a copy behind in the /www directory. Delete it if you wish.

If you run puTTY to connect, change the setting of Resizing the window to "Size of the Font", and make drag the window's edge to be very small. The "graphics" will be easier to read. but still hard to play!

A Known Bug.. aalib interprets the arrow keys as continuously being pressed. so if you move right, press another key to stop the rotation. Or you can redefine the direction buttons to keys other than the arrows.

Remember to breath!

Based on http://www.boutell.com/rinetd/ version 0.61
What is it?

Redirects TCP connections from one IP address and port to another. rinetd is a single-process server which handles any number of connections to the address/port pairs specified in the file /etc/rinetd.conf. Since rinetd runs as a single process using nonblocking I/O, it is able to redirect a large number of connections without a severe impact on the machine. This makes it practical to run TCP services on machines inside an IP masquerading firewall. rinetd does not redirect FTP, because FTP requires more than one socket.

Read the online man page or the one inside the package (for 027 in /mnt/router/packages/rinetd/man, for 030 in /usr/local/rinetd/man) for details how to set this up.

The daemon is controlled via /etc/rinetd.conf and started with rc_rinetd start.

IP aliases

I've tested this daemon with a so called IP aliases (multiple IP's on the same NIC) and that is working too. So basically you can have any number of IP addresses assigned to the same NIC and than have rinetd route connections on them to the correct internal web/mail/whatever server(s).

This is finally a solution for IP aliases on FREESCO, because as you (see here) NAT + port forwarding does not work on an IP alias.

Steps to perform:

1. make the IP aliases:

[Linux] ifconfig eth0:0 a.b.c.d
[Linux] route add -host a.b.c.d dev eth0:0
[Linux] ifconfig eth0:1 a.b.c.e
[Linux] route add -host a.b.c.e dev eth0:1
etc. etc.

After this step you should be able to ping your box with the new IP aliases a.b.c.d, a.b.c.e, etc.

2. Install the rinetd package for your FREESCO flavor

3. edit the /etc/rinetd.conf and add a line like this for each IP alias + port combination you want to redirect:

a.b.c.d 80 10.0.0.1 80      # redirect HTTP to internal server
a.b.c.d 25 10.0.0.2 25      # redirect SMTP mail to internal server
a.b.c.e 80 10.0.0.10 8080 # redirect HTTP to internal server listening at port 8080

4. Save changes and type 'rc_rinetd restart' to activate.

5. test the port forwards

FAQ
If you get:

rinetd: couldn't bind to address a.b.c.d port X

then you should stop the service listening on port X you're trying to forward on FREESCO. If it's the HTTP server (port 80), change setup to 'n' not 's' since that adds a firewall rule.

UDP port redirect is not supported (sorry gamers).

RRD is the Acronym for Round Robin Database. RRD is a system to store and display time-series data (i.e. network bandwidth, machine-room temperature, server load average).
It stores the data in a very compact way that will not expand over time, and it presents useful graphs by processing the data to enforce a certain data density. It can be used either via simple wrapper scripts (shell or Perl) or via front ends that poll network devices and put a friendly user interface on it. RRD home page is: http://people.ee.ethz.ch/~oetiker/webtools/rrdtool/
This FREESCO package is based on version 1.0.33, a howto can be found http://dingetje.homeip.net/rrdtool/howto.html
From Toby's site:
RRDtool is not a full replacement for MRTG, as it does not implement all the front end and data acquisition features of MRTG. But it is an excellent base for building tools which work much like MRTG only better. Eventually, MRTG-3 will be built on top of RRDtool.

rsync is a file transfer program for Unix systems. rsync uses the "rsync algorithm" which provides a very fast method for bringing remote files into sync. It does this by sending just the differences in the files across the link, without requiring that both sets of files are present at one of the ends of the link beforehand.
Requires:
-libc.5.so
-opensshd
Package provides a simple binary with ssh support only. Read rsync website document for use. A simplest use would be to mirror some directory on remote computer. To get differential back up (and remove files removed in remote directory) of www directory of remote.IP on local box www directory (where both have rsync installed), one could issue command similar to
rsync -e ssh --archive --delete remote.IP:/www/ www
It will take long time the first time you have to do it, but next time you will need to download changed and new files only. I am sure that this is what rsync will be mostly used for (back up). If you have a public server and want to have public rsync server for mirroring (anonymous rsync), you could follow one of many tutorials on how to do it, for example http://www.ccp14.ac.uk/ccp14admin/rsync/ . Please note, that it is also possible to have rsync installed on windows machine using sygwin. You could get installer package at http://www.itefix.no/cwrsync/ or search web for many rsync on windows tutorials.

This is version 2.2.8 of Samba, the free SMB and CIFS client and server for UNIX and other operating systems.  A SMB server allows file and printer connections from clients such as Windows, OS/2, Linux and others.

What's new in Samba 2.2.8 - 14th March 2003
===========================================

This release provides an important security fix outlined in the release notes that follow. This is the latest stable release of Samba and the version that all production Samba servers should be running for all current bug-fixes.

Read more about it at samba.org:
http://us3.samba.org/samba/whatsnew/samba-2.2.8.html

-------------------------------------------

What's included:
- All Samba daemons and clients.
- smbfs support driver and smbmount/smbumount (2.0.2).
- Support for msdfs and vfs - allows to use Recycle Bin
- Samba Manual pages - includes the correct smbmount/smbumount man version.
- Tighter FREESCO and Swat integration.

Requirements:
- 14Mb HDD space.

Please note that the sendfile performance improvement doesn't work with 2.0.x kernels, therefore there isn't any compiled-in support for this. Also, SSL support hasn't been compiled in since it will be dropped by the Samba Team itself, in favour of other SSL solutions, ie: stunnel, etc.... MS Win clients don't support SMB via SSL anyway, so it's not a great loss for the most of us.

IMPORTANT: you should uninstall any previous pre 2.2.5 Samba/Swat packages before attempting to install this newer release.
You should backup your smbpasswd and smb.conf files or your config and passes will be lost.

You can then switch back and forth between these sessions using a command key (default ctrl-A ctrl-A).

Requirements
* Lewy-lib for the following libs:

[Linux] ldd screen
libncurses.so.3.4 => /lib/libncurses.so.3.4 (0x40009000)
libc.so.5 => /lib/libc.so.5 (0x4004a000)

* Aprox. 1.5Mb free diskspace

* Sufficient free inodes, this may mean you'll have to install one of the bigger ramdisks that are available (search the forum for ramdisk)

The startup script rc_screen will take care of the required terminfo files.

Just by typing screen a new session is started. Type 'screen ile' to also start the ile command line history tool.
The /mnt/router/packages/screen/etc/screenrc file can be used to fine tune your settings.
See man page (HTML-ized in /mnt/router/packages/screen/man) for details.

[Linux] screen -h
Use: screen [-opts] [cmd [args]]
or: screen -r [host.tty]

Options:
-a Force all capabilities into each window's termcap.
-A -[r|R] Adapt all windows to the new display width and height.
-c file Read configuration file instead of '.screenrc'.
-d (-r) Detach the elsewhere running screen (and reattach here).
-dmS name Start as daemon: Screen session in detached mode.
-D (-r) Detach and logout remote (and reattach here).
-D -RR Do whatever is needed to get a screen session.
-e xy Change command characters.
-f Flow control on, -fn = off, -fa = auto.
-h lines Set the size of the scrollback history buffer.
-i Interrupt output sooner when flow control is on.
-l Login mode on (update /var/run/utmp), -ln = off.
-list or -ls. Do nothing, just list our SockDir.
-L Terminal's last character can be safely updated.
-m ignore $STY variable, do create a new screen session.
-O Choose optimal output rather than exact vt100 emulation.
-p window Preselect the named window if it exists.
-q Quiet startup. Exits with non-zero return code if unsuccessful.
-r Reattach to a detached screen process.
-R Reattach if possible, otherwise start a new session.
-s shell Shell to execute rather than $SHELL.
-S sockname Name this session .sockname instead of ...
-t title Set title. (window's name).
-T term Use term as $TERM for windows, rather than "screen".
-v Print "Screen version 3.09.08 (FAU) 1-Sep-00".
-wipe Do nothing, just clean up SockDir.
-x Attach to a not detached screen. (Multi display mode).
[Linux] screen -v
Screen version 3.09.08 (FAU) 1-Sep-00

Enjoy!

This program is a minimal SMTP client that takes an email message body and passes it on to a SMTP server (default is the MTA on the local host). Since it is completely self-supporting, it is especially suitable for use in restricted environments, where a package such as sendmail or exim is too big and unwieldy. Great for use in custom Freesco scripts.

CMU SNMP version 3.7 port to Freesco 0.2.7. This port supports SNMP version 1 (SNMPv1) and version 2 (SNMPv2).  It only includes the SNMP daemon which answers SNMP V1 and V2usec requests.  Manual and homepage - HERE
In total its about 600Kb so it can only be installed on a harddisk, contents are just the snmp deamon which will be started automaticly at boot...   After installing you will need to configure the snmpd.conf file with your router's maintainer and location, next copy the file to /etc/snmp.conf and start it with rc_snmpd start
The default community is named public, other communities can be added with .../snmpd/installconf.  By default port 161/udp is blocked from internet, to change the snmp port or make it worldwide accessible edit /rc/rcuser/rc_snmpd.
NOTE: snmpd depends on the utils-2 package, so you need to install the utils-2 package before you install snmpd.

I have packed snort 1.7 with additional rules from whitehats
and a block script that will block attacking ip:s.

DESCRIPTION

Snort is an open source network intrusion detection system, capable of performing real-time traffic analysis and packet logging on IP networks. It can perform protocol analysis and content searching/matching in order to detect a variety of attacks and probes, such as buffer overflows, stealth port scans, CGI attacks, SMB probes, OS fingerprinting attempts, and much more. Snort uses a flexible rules language to describe traffic that it should collect or pass, as well as a detection engine that utilizes a modular plugin architecture. Snort has a real- time alerting capability as well, incorporating alerting mechanisms for syslog, user specified files, a UNIX socket, or WinPopup messages to Windows clients using Samba's smbclient.

Snort has three primary functional modes. It can be used as a straight packet sniffer like tcpdump(1), a packet logger (useful for network traffic debugging, etc), or as a full blown network intrusion detection system.

Snort logs packets in either tcpdump(1) binary format or in Snort's decoded ASCII format to a hierarcical set of directories that are named based on the IP address of the remote host.

Plugins allow the detection and reporting subsystems to be extended. Available plugins include database or XML logging, small fragment detection, portscan detection, and HTTP URI normalization, IP defragmentation, TCP stream reassembly and statistical anomaly detection.

My block script can made to ignore some ip:s just add the ip:s to ignore in:
/mnt/router/etc/snortblockignoreip and copy it to /ect/ (no need to restart anything)

And you can set the time a ip is blocked 0 means its added to blocklist and never gets unblocked or enter the number of seconds it will be blocked (default 1h).
config file:/mnt/router/etc/snortblock.cfg
edit and copy to /etc

For you that have installed my old package its can be installed over that one.

I've finished the traffic-vis package
Homepage is http://www.mindrot.org/traffic-vis.html
The traffic-vis package is *not* maintained any longer by its original creator, but it produces usable reports as it is.

A sample report can be seen here:  http://dingetje.homeip.net/traffic-report.html

The package requirements?
I don't know exactly, I only know the package runs on my box (my guess is that you'll need the lewy-lib package)

After installation you can immediately start the package if your internal NIC is eth1 and you're okay with the report being written to /www/traffic-report.html in a 300 sec. (5 min.) interval. You can start the package with rc_traffic-vis start.

If the above mentioned defaults are *not* okay, you'll have to edit the script traffic-visd in directory /mnt/router/packages/traffic-vis/bin
The configurable items are clearly marked in the comments.

There's also a README.FREESCO in /mnt/router/packages/traffic-vis and the original sources + README, etc. are in the 'src' subdir.

I made a package that alows you to give externel hosts access to otherwise blocked services.

Its based on clearence levels.
So by adding a trusted host wont give away all off the services.

A ip will have access to all of the services with the same or less clearence as the IP. This is the default ports and there levels.

# clearance;protocol;port
# Level 10 tcp
10;tcp;23

# Level 9 tcp
9;tcp;82

# Level 2 tcp
2;tcp;21

# Level 1 icmp
1;icmp;-

And the hosts add added to an other file
# syntax:
# clearance;ip
# clearance 1-10 where 10 is only for admins
# ip not 0.0.0.0/0 or 255.255.255.255
2;111.111.111.111
10;222.222.222.222

This will give "111.111.111.111" access to ping and ftp.
And "222.222.222.222" access to telnet, wwa, ftp and ping.

The tshaper package consists of the shaper.o module and the shapecfg binary.  Note that both of these files were in ALPHA stage at the time of the FREESCO kernel, so I don't recommend playing around unless you know what you're doing.  Either way, I can take no responsibility for any damage caused by installation of this package.
Documentation can be found in /mnt/router/packages/tshaper
The shaper.o module is placed in /mnt/router/drv/ and is loaded at boot, if you're an uptime junky then insmod it (insmod can be found in modules.tgz).

The removepkg script only deletes the files - it does not undo any changes you make as part of the installation. A copy of the route table is kept as part of the installpkg process for your reference.

This is my first package, and I can't script my way out of a paper bag as yet, so configuration is up to you, I'm afraid. I've included a short HOWTO below, based on my experience while testing - read it before installation.

HOWTO
installpkg http://leamington.homedns.org/~FREESCO/tshaper/tshaper
The script places the shapecfg binary and README in rc/rcuser/tshaper/
shapecfg attach shaper0 ethX
ethX is the interface you wish to throttle - note that only outgoing traffic can be throttled, as the remote interface has free reign to transmit at its own rate.

shapecfg speed shaper0 BITRATE
BITRATE is an integer value defining the number of bits per second shaper0 can transmit. The minimum is 9600. There is no maximum, but values over 256000 will cause blocky transmission.

route del NETWORK
NETWORK can be found from your report, or from the route table itself, if you don't already know it. It is the NETWORK for the interface you attached shaper0 to.

ifconfig shaper0 IP netmask MASK broadcast BCAST up
All information in capitals is the same as that for the ethX interface. (Can be obtained from "iiconfig ethX")

route add -net NETWORK dev shaper0
NETWORK is the same as that for the deleted route.

That should have you up and running, with ethX's outgoing traffic limited. If you wish to limit transmission to a specific IP, then use of ifconfig ethX:Y to generate a false interface could be used.
eg If you wish to limit traffic transmitted to 10.0.0.2
ifconfig eth1:1 10.0.0.20
shapecfg attach shaper0 eth1:1
etc...
Then use the route command to add specific route for shaper0 to 10.0.0.2 I haven't tested this, so be warned.

!NOTE!
FAILURE TO REMOVE THE ROUTE FOR THE UNDERLYING INTERFACE FROM THE ROUTE TABLE PRIOR TO ADDING THE SHAPER ROUTE WILL RESULT IN "OUT OF MEMORY" ERRORS! (or at least it did for me).

!NOTE!
IF YOU ifconfig down THE ethX INTERFACE TO WHICH SHAPER IS ATTACHED, YOUR FREESCO BOX WILL GO DOWN TOO!

Here it is: UpLA, the Uptimes project Look-Alike.
It measures the current uptime and has a history of previous uptimes. All uptimes are gathered in the file up-data, which must be put on a php-enabled webserver. By default, ftp is used (in the file uplaput). When you use the Freesco (Apache) server, you might use just cp (I did NOT test it with FREESCO's server though).

After the Freesco install, download upla_web.tgz or upla_web.zip from the site mentioned above.
It contains upla.php and button.png, which both must be placed on a php-enabled webserver.
It has some nice history features.

Edit the file /mnt/router/packages/upla/uplaput to fit your needs, and be careful about it's permissions, as it contains username and password of the ftp site!
I'm not sure about what it says in uplaput about 'without initial "/" ', so try for yourself.

I've found this package http://www.win.co.nz/web-passwd/ and then modified it for the FREESCO directory structure, and while I was at it, added a few additional features.

This package allows any standard user to change his/her password via a web form. The actual password change is performed via a CGI program that runs in secure mode. This program will attempt to lock the passwd file, and if succsesfull update the users password with the new data.
To block certain accounts from this program, I've added a configuration file called blocked.cfg that lives in /mnt/router/packages/webpwd. This file contains the account names that are not allowed to be changed via this web form. As an additional feature, I've also added a logfile that logs every action of the web form, including timestamp, user account and result of the CGI program. The CGI program itself is a binary, owned by root.

The logifle is called logfile.txt and is in the same directory as the blocked.cfg file. Here is a sample:

Web Password Logfile

Date + Time               Account           Result
---------------------------------------------------

Sun Dec 16 00:58:40 2001: account: testje | Password Change Successful

Sun Dec 16 00:59:41 2001: account: nobody | The username you entered is not allowed to use this form.

This kind of programs offer of course a possible security hazard, I'm therefore in no way responsible for any damage or security breaches as a result of this package!
I strongly suggest everyone to make a backup of their passwd file first!

A sneak preview of how the page looks can be seen http://dingetje.homeip.net/webpwd/pwd.html  I have removed the CGI script, for obvious reasons

After looking at many posts in the forum I have found that reports are used for diagnostics quite often. Currently I have 2 Freesco Boxes deployed to remote locations. To me it would seem logical to have access to shell scripts like report, ifconfig, free, uptime, and other shell tools from any web browser without having to go through the web admin. I know that I do not like having my web admin publicly viewable, so It is enabled for local use only. I have found though that I sometimes need to view a system report on one of the other diagnostic shell tools and I don't have access to the box either physically or via a remote shell tool. Hope you find this package useful and good luck!
I have been working on my first package all day today. It does not consist of any applications. It uses ECO's uptime package. After reading many posts, I have seen people needing to use common diagnostic functions such as report, ifconfig, and others. I have made a script that provides easy access to them with a html/ Shell script CGI interface. You basically select the function you want from a menu, and Click a button which shows you what you have asked for.

I have updated the Wutils package. It can be installed in either WWW (unsecured) or WWA (Secured). Many little problems were fixed as well. I will have another version out on Monday with a SSH client built in. The wait is caused because I am going to put the package on my schools web server as the package size has increased to 1.5 MB. Once again if you have any ideas for things to be added or changed, let me know. My email is in the readme file (index.htm in the directory wutils) of the package. Thanks again to all beta testers that provided valuable suggestions. Special thanks to Lightning for walking me through and double and triple checking the package.

This is a upgrade of the scripts used in the web administration.

Fixes:
1: start/stop/restart all rc_ scripts in /rc/rcuser  This means that no need for telnet to restart a package.

2: Add/list/delete multiportf (requires multiportf package)  Easer to make port forwards with multiple ports.

3: Plug-in ability.  Possibility for package developers to add more web based control of there packages.
Ex viewing of a log file or what ever they can come up with.

4: eXtremail control (Not made by me just included in this release)
5: efax control (Not made by me just included in this release)

It makes backup of the original files and no problems upgrading your old wwaupgrade.

Always wanted to be in full control over your www counters? This could be a package for you!
Based on http://www.muquit.com/muquit/software/Count/Count2.6/Count.html, I have made a package for freesco 0.2.7.
Those of you that visit my site may have noticed this counter being used on some of the pages.  Sample pages:  http://dingetje.homeip.net/howto/packages/wwwcount/examples.html and http://dingetje.homeip.net/count.html

(both are also in the package as well as a copy of the Count 2.6 documentation.)
The major advantage of this counter is that it doesn't need SSI to work. Instead it generates an image on the fly based on the selected font set, so it can be used in an IMG tag. It also offers a very very wide range of options.

The make_count.sh script in /mnt/router/packages/wwwcount can be used to create a new counter data file. The demo page shows how to add a counter in a page.

Don't bother trying to use the count_admin.pl script. It won't work...

Enjoy.

wwwoffle - World Wide Web Offline Caching Proxy Server. Primarily for Dial-Up connections, but works with my Cable Modem.
This is a large package, so don't even attempt it without a HDD installation of freesco. Also, there are a lot of options in the wwwoffle.conf file and you should look at them, but just changing the Local Net, Local Host, and Allowed Hosts Connect parameters should get you started.
A few questions about this caching proxy server, WWWoffle.
a) Is a caching server useful if you have a 24/7 connection to the WWW?
b) What are the minimum requirements/expectations for it?
c) What is Recursive fetching of pages?

A)
If you have a 24/7 connection it still works, but I am finding that it actually slows my connection down. (I have a cable modem).

B)
As for minimum requirements, I'm finding that at a minimum you need about 64Mb of ram and a 500 - 850 Mb Hdd. You could probably get away with only 32Mb, but to do this you would have to limit the number of servers running (and therefore fetching pages). This again makes it less than optimal for a 24/7 connection with any sizeable amount of bandwidth.

C)
The recursive fetching option allows you to specify a url and x # of pages deep into that url. i.e. ... freescocan-host.com and every page 4 links deep on that site. (an awful lot of web pages). I have found that the only use I have for WWWoffle is to cache children's sites so my son can view them with out being on the internet. I didn't notice any real improvement in my connection, but if I had a dial-up connection it might be an improvement.

(X)net 1.32 for ax25 radio HAM use.
This does not need a ax25 compiled kernel if use with tnc's and axip axudp.
For scc cards or baycom or soundmodems etc you will need a ax25 compiled kernel.
It also comes with script files to update dynip neighbours (with thanks to Eddie Lania NL0EDD)
